Step 1: Determine the best spot for your door stopper: trim, wall or floor

Before you attempt to install your door stopper, you’ll want to decide where the best place is for it. Ideally, the stopper should be placed directly opposite the hinge side of the door. In other words, if the door has hinges on the right side, you’ll want to install your stopper on the left side of the door.

This can be a little tricky because you’ll need to make sure that no one trips over it. Some systems can be installed on the wall, where the door handle hits the wall.

Generally, the best location for a door stopper is at the very edge of the door. You’ll want to make sure there’s enough space for the door to open and close properly.

Step 2: Install your door stopper

Now that you’ve chosen a good spot for your door stopper, it’s time to install it.

It is important to keep the following things in mind as well when you install a door stopper:

Drilling can make it easier to install the screw. If you have to drill, you have to make sure that no wires or pipes run nearby. This is the case both for the wall and the floor. Plumbers often get called out to fix these issues. People drill without thinking and this can break items that are under your floor. It is also important that you don’t drill too deep. In some instances, it is not necessary to drill and you can immediately use the screw.

We also have to make sure that no wires or pipes run in this area. We can use a stud finder to check this. You should also check the plans of your house to double-check. Drilling in a wire can make the circuit breaker flip or cause water leaks so you have to make sure that you avoid this. This can cause a lot of damage so do your research before you start!

If you have to drill to install your door stopper, you have to pick the right drill bit to start. This makes it easier to install the screw later on. Once you have a nice hole, we can pick the door stopper and add the right screw to it. Don’t overtighten the screw as it can break.

– If you want to glue the door stopper, you have to make sure that the adhesive won’t damage the wall or door. You should get it right the first time so that you don’t have to glue it multiple times as this can cause damage. Clean the area before you apply glue. Dirt and dust can make the glue less effective.

-If you have to use another system, be careful that it doesn’t damage or scratch the door. A lot of rubber stoppers can leave scratches or marks on your floors.

Wallmounted systems are often better as people can’t trip over them. This can be dangerous as people have to walk around a lot in this area and they can be distracted while doing so.

Wedge door stoppers usually come with a self-adhesive backing so that you can easily stick them to the floor or door. This can leave some glue marks on the door or wall though.

-If you’re using a string door stopper, tie a simple knot in the middle of the string and attach this to the wall.

Tip: Don’t forget the rubber bumpers!

Some door stoppers have several parts. Make sure to assemble every piece of it so that it works as intended. There is often a rubber piece to slow the impact. Doors are often made out of light MDF wood and they can break when they get pushed into a door stopper.

For this reason, it is important that you get a sturdy one that can still break the impact. This has to be aimed at the area where the door or doorknob will touch the door stopper.

This will prevent the door and floor from getting scratched.

The easiest way to install a door stopper is to just take some wool yarn and place this behind the door. While it might not look that good, it still works. Furthermore, this won’t damage your walls or doors. This is perfect if you live in an apartment.

Granted, it is not the best system but it might be sufficient for your needs. Some door draft stoppers can work as well. They are easy to install. Furthermore, most door stoppers do some damage when you install them and this system doesn’t.

Making sure that you don’t smash the doors can help as well. In some areas, you have to carry items and this is harder to do. Being careful with the doors can already go a long way though.

To conclude, we can state that installing a door stopper is generally quite easy. The main challenge is finding the location where you will place it.

The best door stoppers give some leeway so that they don’t stop the door immediately. This can avoid dangerous situations as people tend to push a door hard. If the door bounces back, it can injure someone. This is why more expensive door stoppers with more padding are often interesting. They make sure that the door and wall don’t get damaged. Furthermore, they don’t bounce the door back as it can hit someone.

Door stoppers are quite easy to install. You just have to be careful that you don’t drill in plumbing pipes, ethernet cables, or electrical cables. Installing the door stopper on the floor often avoids these problems

Door stoppers come in a lot of sizes and types. Finding one that fits your door can take some time. If you have a door that is made out of glass or wood, you should be careful with metal door stoppers.

Door stoppers are quite cheap but it is important that you pick one that is made with durable materials as you don’t want to replace this too often.
